The slightly coarse white earthenware clay provides a satisfyingly rustic texture, typical of pottery. The crystalline glaze, featuring white crystals scattered across a blue-green base, creates a mesmerizing effect reminiscent of a snowy landscape. These elements are combined to create this round, shallow bowl. This particular crystalline glaze is fascinating, as its color can vary significantly depending on subtle differences in the thickness of glaze application and firing temperature. For this firing, the glaze application was thinner than usual. Therefore, after the initial firing, we reapplied the glaze and fired it again. The edges and the underside of the bowl reveal the earthy tones of the clay, appearing as a soft reddish-brown. The areas where the glaze was reapplied exhibit a distinctive bluish-white crystalline pattern, resulting in a unique and captivating finish. The form features a slightly inward-curving rim, making it ideal for holding dishes with a bit of sauce or liquid. Perfect for soups, stews, and braised dishes. Also suitable for light noodle dishes or rice bowls. And for desserts like kuzu-kiri, anmitsu, or shiratama zenzai. Whether it's Japanese cuisine, Western dishes, or desserts, we encourage you to enjoy it with a wide array of meals. The creation process involves preparing the clay, shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, all meticulously done by hand using a small electric kiln and an electric potter's wheel at my home studio. While mass production is not possible, each piece possesses its own unique character, offering the distinct charm that comes from handmade craftsmanship. The item you receive will be the same as pictured. The base of the bowl has been carefully sanded to minimize any potential scratching of your table surfaces. I continuously explore new combinations of various glazes and clays, creating pottery in diverse shapes and colors. Each piece is unique, and while they may appear similar, no two are exactly alike. To address this, we apply a water-blocking treatment to all our tableware using a food-safe sealant before shipping, so there is no need for you to perform a preliminary soaking (me-dama). This treatment requires 2-3 days to complete, which is why our shipping timeframe is set at 5 days from order placement. If you prefer not to have this water-blocking treatment applied, please inform us at the time of your purchase. - Cutlery shown in the product images is not included. - We strive to capture and edit product images to be as true to the actual product as possible.
