Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cut Line" is all top-grade, full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As a natural material, and given that the tannery employs vegetable tanning methods which are less damaging to the hide, the leather may inevitably feature minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We meticulously avoid these during the cutting process or place such areas on less visible or non-stress-bearing parts of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before sewing, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, creating the distinctive, beautiful wavy seam effect that sets our work apart from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a piece is finished, the edges are meticulously burnished and sealed. Our aim is to achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges. "Cut Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a neat appearance, a process repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge wax is added, followed by vigorous burnishing with a polishing stick until the edges achieve a glossy finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by lightly wetting the leather surface. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, building from light to deep tones until the desired color is reached. Once dry, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is then wiped with clean water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between products, making every item unique.
