Artist introduction_ Frederick Edward Hulme (1841 – 1909) was best known as a botanist. From 1886 he was professor of freehand and geometric painting at King's College London. In 1870, at Marlborough College, Hulme began work on his most famous work, Familiar Wild Flowers, which was published in parts as it contained not only a detailed description of each flower, but also its medicinal value, uses and habitats . The work consists mainly of Hume's botanical illustrations of each flower, reproduced in the form of color plates in each volume.
