I wanted to create a brooch that captures the spirit of the season, which led to this design. Embroidery thread consists of six fine strands twisted together; I separate the required number of strands for each design. The thickness and dimension can be adjusted by the number of strands used. After much trial and error to capture the characteristic jagged leaves of the holly, I decided to knit with a single strand to achieve delicate precision. Each leaf is hand-knitted with a wire core for structure. Each berry is made individually by wrapping deep red embroidery thread around a 6mm wooden bead.
