Shippo is likened to an infinite circle, and represents the importance of human connections. Also, there were no sake cup designs that had large, rough cuts in them, so we decided on a design that used cloisonne with large, rough cuts. As we carved various prototypes, we solidified into the current design, which combines the balance of the cloisonne with the rough cuts from the bottom in just the right balance. A jewel is placed at the center of the cloisonne, which is an original design of our workshop. In addition to representing a sphere, "tama" also means "something very important." These names, such as Gyokuza (throne), Gyokusho (jeweled general), and Gyokuro (gyokuro), all mean "something very important." The balls have been treated to give them a frosted glass look.
