As a natural material processed with methods that minimize damage to the hide, it's natural to find minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We carefully select pieces during the cutting process, or position these natural markings on less visible or non-stress areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are meticulously hand-stitched, eschewing machine sewing. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create precise holes in the leather, allowing for the signature wavy stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-made items. While this process significantly extends production time, it's a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final touch before a piece is complete is the careful burnishing and sealing of the leather edges. To achieve a smooth, rounded, and natural finish, "Cutting Line" employs a unique edge-finishing technique. We begin by repeatedly sanding the edges with sandpaper until smooth, then apply an edge sealant for a refined appearance. This is repeated 2-3 times, followed by a layer of edge wax. Finally, a burnishing tool is used to polish the edges to a beautiful, smooth sheen. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed items, "Cutting Line" uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the USA. To ensure a uniform and natural coloration, we first dampen the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, gradually building from light to deep tones until the desired hue is achieved. Once dry, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, a light application of water is used to wipe away any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, making every item truly unique.
