Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cut Line School" is all Grade A, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the low-impact vegetable-tanning process used by the tannery, the leather surface may inevitably show minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create the stitch holes in the leather, which is how we achieve the beautiful wavy stitch effect, distinguishing it from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the edges of the leather are carefully burnished. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cut Line School" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Following this, an edge wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly buffed with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line School" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also apply water to the surface and wipe it to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every item unique.
