Jade, specifically referring to green Hetian jade, is known as "Biyu."
Hetian jade is one of the two recognized types of jade in gemology, belonging to the nephrite category. It possesses a fine texture, smooth and lustrous with an oily sheen. Its chemical composition is a silicate of calcium, magnesium, and iron, with a hardness of 6-6.5. Due to varying proportions of these elements, Hetian jade displays different colors, with Biyu representing the green variety. Hetian jade has been cherished since ancient times, gaining prominence among royalty and nobility during the Qing Dynasty, where it was regarded as a treasured item.
