Material Selection The cowhide currently selected by "Cut Line School" is all top-grade, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tanning process used by the tannery is vegetable tanning, which causes minimal damage to the leather, it is inevitable that there will be a small number of "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins" on the leather surface. When cutting the material, we will do our best to avoid these areas or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines to craft our products; all items are purely hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is how we achieve the beautiful wavy stitch effect, the most significant difference from machine stitching. Although this greatly increases the production time for leather goods, it is also a crucial step for leather artisans to imbue their creations with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand Burnishing and Edge Finishing Before the final product is complete, the last step is to burnish and finish the leather edges. This is done to make the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cut Line School" has its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, a layer of edge finish is applied to make the edges appear even. This process is repeated 2-3 times, followed by a layer of edge wax. Finally, a burnishing tool is used to repeatedly polish the edges until they look smooth. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For "Cut Line School's" hand-dyed products, we currently use Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloring, we first dampen the leather surface with water. Then, we use a sponge to apply the dye layer by layer, from light to deep, until we achieve the desired color. After it dries, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, we apply clear water to the surface of the leather to remove any surface dust and make the color even more uniform. As the dyeing is purely done by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making each one unique.
