After a period of use for break-in, then use the converter for inking. 2. The calligraphy nib is ground and adjusted from an EF nib into a curved, arched tip. Line variation is achieved not solely by pressing the nib, but by the angle of the pen holder. Utilizing the nib's curve allows for varying line widths. When holding the pen at a more upright angle, the contact area between the nib and the paper is smaller, resulting in finer lines.
