Printed in rich layers using a distinctive 'screen printing' technique, paired with thick paper for a warm, tactile feel. The paper is made from rice straw harvested by artisans in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, from the foothills of Mount Fuji. With only one chance each year, the rice straw, gathered during the autumn harvest, is especially precious. Infused with the fibrous texture of the straw paper, it carries a subtle, sweet scent of rice, much like catnip soothes a cat. Injecting warm green and sweet pink into life, we hope that by appreciating the 'Cat Calendar,' we can connect more closely with nature and breathe deeply into every day in Taiwan.
Different countries have unique cultural charms! Did you know that 'Vietnam' also has the zodiac culture? The animal that replaces the rabbit in the zodiac is the supreme Cat Emperor! Those born in the Year of the Rabbit in Vietnam are instead born under the sign of the Cat. Doesn't that sound incredibly adorable? It’s fascinating how cats and rabbits can coexist in such a curious way across different cultures!
A Little Daily Encyclopedia | About the Legend of the 'Cat Year' Zodiac, one theory relates to geographical proximity. Vietnam, deeply influenced by Chinese culture, saw the zodiac culture introduced. When the characters for the zodiac animals were matched with the twelve Earthly Branches, the reading for the 'Rabbit' (卯) sounded similar to the word for 'Cat.' This led to a beautiful misunderstanding, giving Vietnam its unique Cat Year.
The concept of travelers wanting the rabbit to bring the cat along playfully echoes the encounter between the Year of the Rabbit and the Year of the Cat. This allows us, as Taiwanese, to celebrate a Year of the Rabbit filled with a feline spirit.

# This is a calendar that belongs to Taiwan. Taiwanese Hokkien is beautiful, and we hope it will never be forgotten.
The 'Taiwanese Hokkien Workbook' illustration series, published on Instagram and beloved by many, served as the initial inspiration for the Cat Calendar. Music is an indispensable part of life, and Taiwanese Hokkien is a symbol of Taiwan's spirit. Twelve months are paired with twelve classic Taiwanese Hokkien songs. On your birthday month, you can sing a different birthday song. Follow the Romanized phonetic spelling, learn one Taiwanese Hokkien phrase a month, and gradually understand, speak, hear, and sing!
# Upholding the faith of cat lovers, traditional almanac customs of auspicious and inauspicious days are specially included within the months.
Combining the folk beliefs of the Taiwanese almanac, which designates suitable and unsuitable activities for each day, the Cat Calendar incorporates twelve exclusive auspicious and inauspicious designs based on the monthly illustration themes. Did you know? Ancient times already had warm customs like 'Suitable for adoption' and 'Unsuitable for capture.' This cross-generational call encourages everyone to choose adoption over purchasing, spreading ripples of animal welfare through action.
# Special festivals for the Cat Calendar & Rabbit Powers are written in. Every underlined date is an anniversary.
There are many festivals around the world named after cats and rabbits, such as Japan's Maneki-neko Day, Italy's Black Cat Festival, and International Rabbit Day. Where there is love, every day is a good day. The Cat Calendar fully marks Taiwan's public holidays and includes the 24 solar terms like the Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter Solstices, dividing the seasons within daily life. Like cats, elegantly savoring the changes of the seasons.
