Sometimes the pieces are too small to become a complete work right away, and can only wait quietly—until enough of them gather, and the colors and textures begin to resonate with one another. It feels as though these fabrics have been waiting for this destined encounter, and when everything aligns, the story can finally be told in full. In the process of creating patchwork pieces, I often feel that the fabrics speak to me. Their stories continue through the thread and needle, while I am simply the storyteller who listens and translates their voices into form. This piece features red and orange as its main tones, accented with yellow and brown. What makes it special is that I finally decided to use an antique velvet fabric I’ve cherished since childhood, allowing it to blend into this festive world of color. The reverse side is pieced together in different directions, allowing the same metallic fabric to shimmer with shifting shades of light. The overall narrow design gives the richly patterned surface a sense of lightness.
