This trip to Kyoto brought encounters with many wonderful people and things.
It not only allowed me to re-experience the joy of living well but also showcased the ancient capital's dedication to preserving and innovating traditional culture and crafts. What captivated me most, at first sight, were the coin purses meticulously crafted by a kimono artisan. Mr. Nakamura, a humble yet elegant craftsman, has retired from the world of kimono making but continues to design and create coin purses using his beloved kimono fabrics.
◾️【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】
The artisan's lifelong dedication is evident in every detail and material selection. This piece features the exquisite Kyoto craft of "Kanoko Shibori" hand-tied dyeing. Named for its resemblance to a fawn's spots, the hand-dyeing process is incredibly intricate and refined, resulting in unique patterns and colors for each piece. Consequently, these items are exceptionally rare and should be cherished as a once-in-a-lifetime find.
Mr. Nakamura's coin purses stand leagues apart from those made with synthetic fibers or cotton found elsewhere. Even accessories deserve to be scrutinized like fine luxury goods. He uses only the finest materials, remarking, "Use it gently, and the texture will soften beautifully over time."
It's clear that people in Kyoto truly appreciate quality! No wonder they take such pride in their city. We are grateful to Mr. Nakamura for agreeing to specially craft a batch for us. I must be honest: compared to the myriad of coin purses available, the initial price might seem a bit steep. At first, I was drawn solely by its aesthetic appeal, not paying much mind to the premium kimono fabric or the meticulously crafted clasp, which I took for granted. However, after receiving and using it, I truly understood its value. With every opening and closing, I can't help but marvel, growing more fond of it each time. Anyone who receives one will understand why it's considered an art-level coin purse, making you want to collect them all!
