This rare series, meaning "willow" in Finnish, was manufactured only for a few years in the early 1970s. Rather than a literal depiction of a willow tree, the design is a stylized representation of swaying willow branches in bloom. Deep cobalt blue and a soft blue with a purplish hue. The rhythmic arrangement of blues with varying shades creates an expression that is both calm and subtly light. Each pattern is hand-painted by artisans, and the variations in color intensity and brushstrokes are part of the charm of handmade artistry. The colors are deep and layered, reminiscent of a tranquil waterside. Decorated by Anja Jaatinen Winquist, known for her skill in translating natural motifs into designs that enhance daily life, this piece embodies her signature style. The form design is the "ND model" by Ulla Procope. The ND model was created in the early 1960s for "Valencia," and its lineage was continued in the Paju series. A raised foot gives the cup a sleek profile, while the slightly outward-flaring rim offers a comfortable mouthfeel and traces an elegant line. Paired with the saucer, the refined form is accentuated, exuding a dignified presence. Yet, its moderate thickness ensures practicality and ease of use. This demitasse size is perfect for espresso or demi-tasse coffee. Ideal for post-meal moments or entertaining guests, it can also be freely enjoyed in daily life – perhaps for displaying small flowers or serving petite desserts. ▶︎Designer Form: Ulla Procope Decoration: Anja Jaatinen Winquist ▶︎Manufacturer ARABIA ▶︎Country of Manufacture Finland ▶︎Manufacturing Period Early 1970s (Various dates exist, such as 1969-1973, 1970-1972) ▶︎Size Cup: Diameter 7.2cm / Height 4.8cm / Base Diameter 5.3cm Saucer: Diameter 11.5cm / Height 1.5cm Capacity (full): Approx. 100ml ▶︎Condition Rank: B This vintage piece is in good condition with no major damage and retains its gloss.
