Shuifei Sand, Diwang Sand, Zijin Sand, and Jingti Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**「Shuifei Sand」**
**True red of China, with a slight orange hue. The surface has a warm, matte finish that will become more lustrous with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, stirring with water, and collecting the upper "turbid liquid" after settling. Then, it is allowed to settle again (the Shuifei purification method). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Evenly distributed fine mineral sparkles can still be seen on the cross-section.
**「Diwang Sand」**
**The color is a more vibrant true red, with higher hardness.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/Shuifei/high polishing** from natural raw cinnabar ore, followed by ancient pressing methods. Diwang Sand has almost no surface sparkle, but has internal sparkles; the surface uses a **high polishing** process to achieve a metallic texture, especially in sunlight, enhancing its metallic feel.
**「Zijin Sand」**
**The color is a purplish-red, with slightly lower hardness than Diwang Sand.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/screening** from natural raw cinnabar ore, but **without Shuifei purification**. Therefore, the surface is less refined and has scattered small mineral sparkles, giving a "starry sky" appearance.
**「Jingti Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
Large particles of cinnabar directly chipped from the cinnabar ore. Large crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface. Under light, each particle is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**
**All things that unfold, all poetic and beautiful things in this world, often happen naturally, just like the changing seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, respect the power of time, and let everything grow naturally, like a tree, focusing without fear, growing clear annual rings.**
**Our handicrafts are the same!!**
**> Cinnabar**
In the earliest textual records, cinnabar was referred to by a single character, "丹" (dān). The character "丹" is an ideogram. Ancient miners would dig wells and extract minerals from them. Thus, the character "丹" is actually the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a dug mine – this something is cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, "丹砂" (dān shā) became known as cinnabar. "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregularly granulated minerals.
Cinnabar's color is long-lasting. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dān qīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. Cinnabar is also an indispensable component of "八宝印泥" (bābǎo yìnní - eight-treasure ink pad).
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon. It absorbs the positive energy of heaven and earth, thus possessing a powerful yang magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in various Taoist practices such as drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil spirits, and suppressing negative energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme item for improving luck, warding off evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, wealth, and well-being.
The *Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing* (Classic of Herbal Medicine) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in medicinal treatments for calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also help cultivate self-discipline, nurture the eyes and the heart.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar and have a strong sense of weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat indirectly. It is generally not recommended to directly burn the finished product as the time and area cannot be controlled. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. True cinnabar can draw orangish-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area or use the gifted beads for drawing.)
**> Care**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not have accessories made of metal or plant-based materials (such as wood, bamboo, bodhi seeds, etc.), it can be lightly exposed to water, but it is not suitable for prolonged soaking, as this will affect its luster.**
**Braided cord styles are not recommended to get wet. After washing, they should be air-dried before wearing, as wearing damp cords can lead to excessive moisture, which is not good for the body.**
1. Avoid corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water, but frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid contact with metal objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid high temperatures
The mercuric sulfide in cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with confidence.
4. Avoid collision with hard or sharp objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to clean
If you find cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original brilliance! You can gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth, and it will be fine after a period of drying.
6. Oiling for maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil, making it more lustrous and clear. If you apply oil and then seal it in a brocade box, you can wrap it with a common plastic film to prevent the oil from staining the brocade box lining.
7. Frequent handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body with your hands, allowing the surface to absorb a thin layer of oil. Over time, it will become more ancient, elegant, and refined.
The actual product is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
