Please be aware!) **> Categories** Water-milled cinnabar, Emperor cinnabar, Purple-gold cinnabar, and Crystal cinnabar all belong to high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in colour, texture, hardness, and production methods**. **「Water-milled Cinnabar」** **A true red, with a slight orange hue. The surface has a warm, matte effect and will become shinier with wear, forming a patina.** The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles into a paste, stirring with water, letting it settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid". This is then left to settle again (the water-milling purification method). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Fine, uniform mineral flecks can still be seen on the internal cross-section. **「Emperor Cinnabar」** **The colour is closer to true red, with a brighter hue and higher hardness.** The production method involves purifying natural cinnabar ore through multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water-milling/high polishing**, and then pressing it using ancient methods. Emperor cinnabar has almost no mineral flecks on the surface, but has them internally. The surface uses a **high-polishing** process to achieve a metallic texture, especially in sunlight, where the metallic feel is amplified. **「Purple-gold Cinnabar」** **The colour is purplish-red, with slightly lower hardness than Emperor cinnabar.** The production method involves multiple processes from natural cinnabar ore such as **crushing/grinding/screening**, but **does not undergo water-milling purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has small, scattered mineral flecks, giving a "stars in the sky" effect. **「Crystal Cinnabar」** **The colour is purplish-red and translucent.** Large particles of cinnabar chipped directly from the cinnabar ore, with clearly visible crystal grains on the surface. "丹" is an ideogram. In ancient times, miners dug wells to extract minerals, so the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a dug well, and that something is cinnabar. Because cinnabar is red, mostly a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhū shā). "丹" and "朱" describe the colour, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregularly granulated minerals. Cinnabar's colour does not fade. Chinese calligraphy and painting are called "丹青" (dān qīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is an indispensable ingredient in pigments, and the "Eight Treasures Ink Pad", a common stationery item, also has cinnabar as its main component. From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have gathered the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a very strong Yang energy magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool in the hand, while cinnabar feels warm. Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil spirits, and suppressing malevolent influences. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a superior item for improving luck, warding off evil, and attracting wealth and fortune, carrying auspicious meanings of good fortune, wealth, and health. The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior medicinal substance, often used in treatments for calming the nerves, detoxification, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming. Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artefacts can also help cultivate one's character, nurture the eyes, and soothe the heart. **> Identification** **All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar and have a strong sense of weight. You can use the following methods for identification:** >. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products, as it is difficult to control the time and area. Overheating will cause it to turn black and become irreversible.) >. Real cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area to draw the line, or use the gifted bead to do so.) **> Care** **If cinnabar jewellery does not contain metal or plant-based components (such as wood, bamboo, bodhi seeds, etc.), it can be exposed to water occasionally, but prolonged soaking is not recommended as it can affect its lustre.** **Braided cord items are not recommended to get wet. After washing, they should be air-dried before wearing, as damp cords can lead to excessive moisture on the body, which is not ideal.** 1. Avoid Corrosion Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water, but frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar. 2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening and blackening of the cinnabar. 3. Avoid High Temperatures The mercuric sulfide in cinnabar's composition only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewellery to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with peace of mind. 4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects. Cinnabar is hard but brittle, so handle with care to prevent drops. 5. How to Clean If you find cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original lustre! You can wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while. 6. Oiling Method for Maintenance Wipe a layer of white tea oil or olive oil onto the finished product, allowing the stone surface to absorb the oil, making it more crystal clear and radiant. If you wipe it with oil and then seal it in a brocade box, you can wrap it in a piece of plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade box lining. 7. Frequent Handling Frequently handle the cinnabar jewellery worn on your body with your hands, allowing the surface to acquire a very thin layer of oil. Over time, it will become more antique and elegant. The actual product is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
