Opals come in varieties such as black opal, white opal (crystal opal), fire opal, and boulder opal. Opal is composed of a structure of silica spheres. These spheres are invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen under an electron microscope. The color variations are caused by diffraction and interference – it's a bit complex, but essentially, light interacts with the gaps between these spherical structures! **Opal Care & Storage** If you have purchased natural opal or pearl, please be mindful to avoid environments with excessive humidity or drastic temperature changes. Both temperature and humidity can accelerate the decomposition or oxidation of organic gemstones. Due to their hardness and formation state, it's also best to avoid hot springs and hot baths, as well as products containing cleaning agents. Opal is a delicate gemstone that requires a bit of moisture for care. Therefore, desiccant is not included in the storage bag. Like other gemstones, it should not be worn during baths or hot spring visits. Do not use silver polishing cloths to clean opals; instead, use a clean, dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. A jewelry polishing cloth will be included. After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean and store it in the gemstone storage bag. For all natural gemstone and metal jewelry, it is not recommended to wear them in hot springs or during bathing, as chemicals can cause adverse reactions. Avoid direct contact with perfumes and bleach. Also, do not store jewelry in bathrooms or kitchens, as this can accelerate oxidation. For sterling silver or gold-filled jewelry, when not being worn, try to minimize exposure to moisture and air. Wipe clean with a dry cloth or the provided polishing cloth, then store in a PVC zipper bag.
