A height difference of 3 cm changes a pet's feeding posture entirely. While there is a significant difference in bowl capacity, it is also important to consider whether your pet can reach the bottom of the bowl.
The Round bowl stand is the first series from 9house, featuring a distinctive rounded design language. The series is available in three sizes: small, large, and extra-large, with each size offered in single or double bowl configurations. First, determine the bowl size based on meal volume, then measure the required height.

■ Legs attached to the edges, not the underside
Most bowl stands on the market attach their legs to the bottom of the frame. The four legs of the Round bowl stand are attached to the side edges.
This wasn't a deliberate design choice, but a happy accident.
The circumference of the first prototype was too narrow, and to avoid drilling through the inner wall during installation, we had to attach them from the lower edge. The result, however, was surprisingly stunning—a compromise that wasn't calculated, creating a beautiful upward-extending arc at the joints.
Furthermore, to make the best use of materials, after developing the side-attached legs on the first prototype, the designer added wooden pieces to thicken the frame to determine the ideal thickness, resulting in the complete proportions seen today. Good design does not happen all at once; fate may offer clues (like side-attached legs), but the most appropriate proportions require effort to discover.
That first prototype, which we were reluctant to discard, still bears the adhesive marks from the added wood—it is currently at the designer’s home, still being used by his Shiba Inu.

The seams form an upward arc, a result of the technique used to avoid drilling through the inner circumference.
■ Legs for six bowl types, varying in thickness
Meteor 20mm, Peanut 20mm, 'Big Eater' 30mm, 'King Kong' 33mm, and extra-large 35mm.
The intervals are only 2 to 3 mm—barely perceptible to the naked eye—but when placed together, the proportions are immediately clear. If the legs are too thin, a large stand looks unstable; if they are too thick, a small stand looks bulky.
The leg diameter for the Meteor was changed from 18mm to 20mm, the **only dimension changed** in this series over many years of production. The designer spent a long time considering these 2 mm—it looks more rounded and stands more steadily.
■ Milled from solid wood for continuous grain
The frame is milled from a single block of solid wood.
Common market practice uses finger-jointed panels from small wood scraps for efficiency and lower costs; however, the grain is interrupted every few segments, losing the beauty of the natural wood pattern once milled into a circle.
Therefore, the designer selects solid beech: starting with large, circular wood blocks and undergoing multiple processes, the natural beauty of the grain emerges. Beech has a fine texture, making the finished surface smoother. Walnut and oak can also be used, but their coarser wood fibers make finishing and moisture control more demanding, often with less consistent results.
The extra-large size is the only exception. Because of its massive dimensions, finding thick and large enough solid material is difficult and expensive; **the minimum requirement is two pieces joined together**—yet we still insist on avoiding small, scrap-piece panels.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/%E8%A9%A6%E6%8B%8D2-1156-2-1024x682.jpg
The grain runs continuously around the frame without any interruption.
■ Sanding is the most labor-intensive part
Sanding is the most time-consuming process—it requires a great deal of work.
Because the frame is milled from a solid wood block, the grain includes both forward and reverse patterns. Forward grain is easy to sand, but reverse grain can easily develop pits. To ensure the entire stand feels smooth and refined, it must be sanded meticulously with progressively finer grit sandpaper.
The grain on the outer ring and the inner hole ring differs, requiring different sanding methods. The inner ring is too small for large sanding machines, and manual sanding is not precise enough, necessitating the use of a special vertical sander.
The 90-degree angle on the circumference requires special attention—the finish does not adhere well to the corners, making them susceptible to moisture if not sanded perfectly. It must be manually sanded until smooth, creating a gentle curve that allows the finish to hold.
Finally, there are the leg holes. After milling, the edges are sharp and the walls are thin, so each hole edge must be manually rounded with a small grinding wheel—if the wall thickness isn't sufficient, the finish will be scraped off.

The arc around the hole edge is manually smoothed out with a small grinding wheel.
■ Precise drilling of bowl holes
The bowl holes are opened slightly larger than the bowl diameter, but by no more than 5 mm.
The designer initially assumed that cutting a perfect circle would suffice. The problem wasn't a lack of precision—it was that ceramic bowls are made of clay and kiln-fired; they aren't always perfect circles when finished. At first, the designer thought his compass was broken because the bowls wouldn't fit.
This 5 mm margin allows for the deformation of the ceramic bowls. If the hole is too tight, the bowl won't fit; if it's too loose, the bowl will wobble or tip over.
To be certain, the designer tests every single bowl with its stand before shipping.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/%E8%A9%A6%E6%8B%8D2-1085-1024x819.jpg
The gap between the bowl rim and the wood surface provides clearance for the ceramic bowl's natural deformation.
■ Custom-molded foot covers
The four silicone foot covers are custom-molded, semi-circular caps with a thickness of approximately 1 to 2 mm. Finding the right supplier took a great deal of effort.
We briefly considered dipping the feet in silicone ourselves—for three days, we were amateur chemists, buying raw materials and colorants. The result, however, was unsatisfactory: the layer was only 0.1 to 0.3 mm thick, lacked durability, wore off quickly, and had inconsistent thickness and dripping issues. Plus, it would have to be done for every order. The designer firmly rejected this method.
These silicone covers have lived up to the effort spent finding them—since launch, every customer has been satisfied with their performance, and there have been no reports of them hardening or becoming brittle. The only issue reported is customers losing them when removing them. >><

It took a long time to find someone willing to mold these semi-circular caps. The DIY version was too thin and wore away quickly.
■ Finish resistant to splashes
The surface is coated with water-based wood finish; no solvent-based (oil-based) paints are used.
Water splashes form beads and can be wiped away. However, it cannot withstand prolonged soaking—if water is left to pool, the finish will age rapidly and eventually break down.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_2385-1024x682.jpg
Splashes bead up and can be wiped away; however, do not let water accumulate, as the finish will degrade more quickly.
■ Three sizes for three types of pets
The three sizes of the Round bowl stand offer more than just differences in bowl capacity. The frame size, leg thickness, and height options all adjust to fit the bowl. You can first choose the small, large, or extra-large bowl type based on your pet's usual meal volume (in cups). Then, read on to see how to choose the rest.
■ Small: 8 to 15 cm, for Chihuahuas, small Poodles, and cats
The small size uses a 12 cm wide, 4 cm deep ceramic bowl, with a capacity of 275ml, or about 0.8 cup of dry food. The single bowl model is 'Meteor', and the double bowl is 'Peanut'. Chihuahuas, small Poodles, and cats mostly fall into this category. The bowls are shallow because small dogs and cats have short, small muzzles; if the bowl is too deep, they cannot reach the bottom layer, and a small-capacity bowl does not need to be deep.
The default heights for the small bowl are 8 cm and 15 cm. Custom heights are available up to 20 cm. This limit isn't due to materials, but design: the legs are attached at a 20-degree outward angle. The taller the stand, the wider the legs spread. With the small frame, a wide leg spread would clearly extend beyond the frame, causing people or pets to trip if they rely only on the frame to judge the position. Therefore, the designer capped the default height at 15 cm (custom up to 20 cm) so the leg spread is proportional to the frame size. 8 cm may seem low, but for a normal-sized Chihuahua, having the head slightly below the back is the correct height. Long-term experience shows that 8 cm and 15 cm fit the vast majority of small pets.
Meteor was the first in the entire series. For small pets, even a slight elevation makes a big difference: their necks don't have to stretch downward, and the bowl has a fixed position, preventing them from pushing it around while eating.
■ The development of the bowl stand series
The first bowl stand was made for our own Shiba Inu. She was about a year old at the time and eating on the floor from a small stainless steel bowl. The designer observed three things: the bowl was too small; it had to be placed on a cloth to prevent it from sliding away; and she was restless, always making a mess while eating.
So, after finishing the first kangaroo nest, the idea for a bowl stand came naturally when brainstorming the second product.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/07/IMG_5300-1024x1024.jpg
The Shiba Inu in the photo is the starting point. Her custom height is 18 cm, which is not a default option and was made specifically for her.
Initially, there were only three bowl types because we wanted them to be easy for customers to remember. However, as the series developed, the unique names became too complex, so we consolidated them: 'Round bowl stand' is the general term, categorized by bowl size and single/double configuration.
Now, when choosing a bowl stand, you don't need to learn names—just measure the height and calculate the food volume.
■ How to choose
■ First, confirm if you need a bowl stand
If your pet is very small and a height of 3 or 4 cm is sufficient, then simply giving them a bowl is fine—just ensure the bowl does not slide. However, if you are looking for a stand because they are excited eaters and the bowl slides around, then we welcome you to contact the designer to discuss the best solution.
■ How large should the bowl be? Look at how much they eat
The bowl size is not based on height, but on meal volume. The Round bowl stand has three bowl tiers, each available in single or double.
Bowl Size | Single Bowl | Double Bowl | Capacity per bowl
Small | Meteor Stand | Peanut Stand | 275ml ceramic bowl (approx. 0.8 cup dry food)
Large | Big Eater Stand | King Kong Stand | 755ml ceramic bowl (approx. 2 cups) or 1100ml stainless steel bowl (approx. 3.5 cups)
Extra-large | Extra-large single | Extra-large double | 2200ml stainless steel bowl (approx. 7 cups, **stainless steel only**)
Cups are measured by a 240ml measuring cup for dry food; ml indicates the actual water capacity of the bowl.
Use single bowls for food, and double bowls for food on one side and water on the other.
Too large a bowl is also not ideal. If the pet is small and the bowl is too large, they will eventually **not be able to reach the food in the middle**. Therefore, check the meal volume first, then the height.
■ Height: Please measure it yourself
Every pet has a different build, so height cannot be matched by breed—please measure it yourself.
Have them stand flat with four feet on the ground and their body naturally relaxed. Find the bony protrusion at the top of the shoulder blades, then find the elbow joint of the front leg. Take the midpoint between these two points and measure the distance from that point to the ground.
The bowl rim is only about 1 cm higher than the surface, which is negligible—match your measured number directly to the default height. Choose the **largest type that does not exceed your measurement**, rounding down, not up.
https://9housedesign.com/zh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/08/%E7%A2%97%E6%9E%B6%E9%AB%98%E5%BA%A6%E9%87%8F%E6%B8%AC_%E7%8B%97-1024x655.png
Measure the distance to the ground from the point between the top of the shoulder blades and the front elbow joint.
The measurement method and conversion rules are based on the practical experience of 9house designers and do not follow AKC/FCI breed standards; the numbers are approximate ranges, not guaranteed specifications.
If you are unsure how to choose after measuring, or if your number falls exactly between two tiers, please feel free to contact the designer, who will provide recommendations based on past experience.
■ Flat or tilted
Generally, a flat top is recommended. A tilt will reduce the bowl's capacity by about 10%.
We recommend a tilt only in these situations:
- When your measurement falls between two tiers—use the larger tier with a tilt; the front edge will lower.
- Short-nosed pets (French Bulldogs, Pugs, etc.)—the bowl rim needs an angle so their face can fit in.
- Normal-sized Chihuahuas—the 8 cm tilted model will have a front edge of approximately 6.5 cm.
- Pets already accustomed to a tilted bowl surface—they are already used to this, so there is no need to change it when getting a new stand.
The indicated height is the **center of the bowl surface**. Taking the 8 cm tilted model as an example: the rear edge is 9.5 cm, the center is 8 cm, and the front edge is 6.5 cm, resulting in a 3 cm difference. The tilt difference for all bowl types is 3 cm.
These are recommendations, not restrictions. If you want a tilted one, choose it, and we will make it.
■ Ceramic or stainless steel bowl
Which bowl type goes with which, all in one table:
Bowl Type | Ceramic Bowl | Stainless Steel Bowl
Small Single/Double | 275ml | —
Large Single/Double | 755ml | 1100ml
Extra-large Single/Double | — | 2200ml
**Extra-large is only available with stainless steel bowls**—there is no corresponding ceramic bowl for that capacity.
Ceramic bowls are microwaveable. Stainless steel bowls have high capacity and are durable, but cannot be microwaved.
■ Is your pet's height not an option?
9house bowl stand heights have been customizable since the first model was launched—it is not a service added later. The designer knows how important it is to find the right stand for every pet.
If your measured height is not in the default options, or your pet has special posture requirements, please feel free to use the 'Contact Designer' feature on the site to discuss, and he will provide recommendations based on past experience.
If you are certain about the required height, you can also select 'Custom Height' in the 'Height' options (Small 8–20 cm, Large 10–40 cm, Extra-large 20–55 cm) and write the actual height in the order notes. If you have other requirements for bowl material or quantity, write those in the notes as well.

■ Three levels of control, managing formaldehyde at the source
Formaldehyde emissions in engineered wood are classified into three levels. Taiwan's legal threshold is F3, with F1 being the highest.
Level | Formaldehyde Emission (Average) | What this means
F1 | ≤ 0.3 mg/L | Highest level, equivalent to Japan's F☆☆☆☆. The best result for engineered wood furniture.
F2 | ≤ 0.5 mg/L | Common in Taiwan and Japan, 1.7 times the F1 tolerance.
F3 | ≤ 1.5 mg/L | Taiwan's legal minimum threshold; selling is prohibited if not met. 5 times the F1 tolerance.
However, the solid wood used by 9house is not on this table. Material, glue, and paint—we have strict standards for all three.
**First: Material.** This table classifies engineered wood (particle board, etc.) pressed together with glue, which is the source of formaldehyde. 9house uses natural solid wood, which requires no formaldehyde, so it has no classification level.
**Second: Glue.** Solid wood boards are typically only 10–20 cm wide; making large boards requires gluing or connecting wooden parts. We use water-based woodworking glue, not formaldehyde-based resins.
**Third: Paint.** Our water-based wood finish was tested by the SGS laboratory in Kaohsiung for formaldehyde and found to be below the detection limit of 0.1 mg/L (the F1 threshold is 0.3). Report KC/2017/60064A-01, June 14, 2017. The sample tested was EPnS Environmental Protection Water-based Wood Finish, not the finished product.
We do not claim our finish is 'food grade', as we don't drink the paint directly.

■ Questions you might have before buying
■ Some pets don't actually need a bowl stand
If your pet is very small and a height of 3 or 4 cm is enough, just give them a bowl; just make sure the bowl doesn't slide. If you are specifically looking for a stand because the bowl slides, that makes sense.
■ About assembly
The four legs are screwed in by hand; no tools are needed, and there are no hardware kits to inventory.
Before shipping, we fully assemble every piece once—confirming it matches the correct diameter, checking the height against the order, and verifying the legs screw in smoothly. We check everything, then disassemble it for packing.
■ Will the ceramic bowl wobble?
Although the bowl hole is intentionally opened about 5 mm larger than the bowl diameter, this is because ceramic bowls are kiln-fired and may not be perfect circles. The 5 mm provides a margin for this deformation. However, we test-fit every bowl before shipping to ensure it is stable while in use.
■ Can the ceramic bowl be microwaved?
Yes, ceramic bowls can be used in the microwave without issue. **Stainless steel bowls cannot be microwaved.** If you choose the stainless steel bowl, please transfer food to another container before heating.
■ Surface and cleaning
The surface is coated with water-based wood finish; no solvent-based paints are used. For daily cleaning, use a cloth dampened with water or a neutral detergent. **Do not wipe with alcohol**—water-based finishes have a naturally lower resistance to alcohol.
The finish handles splashes well, but not prolonged soaking. Wipe away water spills; do not let water accumulate.
■ The natural look of wood
As this is a solid wood product, grain patterns, color differences, and wood knots are natural. Knots cannot be perfectly disguised—filling them makes the color stand out even more, so our method is to place the side with noticeable knots on the inner, hidden side during the assembly process.
■ Will the ceramic bowl break during shipping?
Early shipments of ceramic bowls overseas often suffered damage, and various box designs didn't help. Later, after seeing fruit stalls using inflatable bags, we found the method: the frame is wrapped, the bowl is placed in an inflatable bag and fixed next to the frame, with the extra hard object providing protection. Since then, the breakage rate has dropped to near zero.
■ Ready to choose?
Select the bowl type, height, and surface type, and add it to your cart.
If the height you need is not in the options, or you want to change the bowl material, please tell us via 'Contact Designer' before ordering; the designer himself will respond.
