Star Moon Bodhi seeds are from the Calamus rotang vine. Each bead features one large dot and many small dots, resembling stars cradling the moon, hence its name. Its color and smoothness vary with wear duration. Not only do Star Moon Bodhi prayer beads carry the profound meaning of achieving enlightenment, but they also possess the power to ward off evil and enhance wisdom, dispelling worries. While the husk of the Star Moon Bodhi fruit is yellow, the flesh inside is black after peeling. Grinding it with sand reveals a grayish-white interior. Hainan Yuanbao seeds are currently recognized as the Star Moon variety with the best density. They are called Yuanbao (ingot) seeds because their shape after grinding resembles an ingot. The reason Calamus rotang fruit is also called red vine fruit is that when boiled in hot water, the water turns red, and the originally white flesh also turns red, hence its name.
