Material Selection The cowhide leather used by "Cut Line School" is exclusively sourced from Italy, graded as premium, high-fat vegetable-tanned leather. As a natural material, and due to the minimal-impact vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, slight imperfections such as minor "scratches," "wrinkles," and "veins" are inherent. We make every effort to avoid these during the cutting process, or position them on less visible or non-stress-bearing areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch precise holes in the leather, creating the characteristic wavy stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn items. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before a product is complete is the meticulous burnishing and finishing of the leather edges. To achieve a smooth, rounded, and natural appearance, "Cut Line School" employs a proprietary edge finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge finishing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, a process repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge wax is applied, followed by vigorous polishing with a burnishing tool until the edges achieve a lustrous smoothness. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed items, "Cut Line School" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To ensure even and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. The dye is then applied repeatedly with a sponge, building the color gradually from light to deep until the desired shade is achieved. After drying, a color-setting agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, a light application of water is used to wipe away any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual items, making every creation unique.
