Shuifei Sand, Emperor Sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**"Shuifei Sand"**
**A true red, with a slight orange undertone. The surface has a warm, frosted luster that will become brighter with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar granules into a paste, mixing with water, and allowing it to settle. The upper "turbid liquid" is collected, then allowed to settle again (the Shuifei purification method). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Fine mineral sparkles can still be seen on the cross-section.
**"Emperor Sand"**
**The color is closer to true red, with a brighter hue and higher hardness.**
The production method involves multiple steps from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/Shuifei/high polishing**, gradually purifying it before being pressed using ancient methods. Emperor Sand has almost no visible mineral sparkles on the surface, but has them internally. The surface is treated with **high polishing** to achieve a metallic texture, especially under sunlight, enhancing its metallic feel.
**"Purple Gold Sand"**
**The color is purplish-red, and the hardness is slightly lower than Emperor Sand.**
The production method involves multiple steps from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing/grinding/screening**, but **without Shuifei purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has tiny, scattered mineral sparkles, giving a "starry sky" appearance.
**"Crystal Sand"**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The surface clearly shows large crystal grains. Under light, each grain is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**
**All things that unfold, all poetic moments, all beautiful occurrences in this world often happen naturally, just like the changing seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, revere the power of time, and let everything grow naturally. Like a tree, grow with focus and fearlessness, forming clear growth rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is also like this!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest written records refer to cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is a pictograph: ancient people dug mines, and within the mine, they extracted minerals. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying that a mine was dug and something was extracted from it—that something being cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā), with "丹" and "朱" describing the color, and "砂" describing the shape, meaning irregularly shaped mineral particles.
Cinnabar's color is long-lasting. Chinese calligraphy and painting are called "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. An indispensable pigment in traditional Chinese painting and an important component of "Eight Treasures Seal Ink" is cinnabar.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a strong positive yang magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar held in the hand feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for writing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil spirits, and appeasing malevolent forces. Cinnabar has always been regarded by people as a supreme treasure for attracting good fortune, changing luck, warding off evil, dispelling negativity, inviting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of overwhelming good fortune, prosperity, and well-being.
The *Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing* (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in medicinal treatments for its properties in calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning a piece or two of cinnabar art can also help cultivate one's character, soothe the eyes, and calm the mind.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in this store are high-content cinnabar with a substantial weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products as the time and area cannot be controlled. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. True cinnabar can draw an orangey-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area or use the complimentary bead for testing.)
**> Care**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling and blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercury sulfide component of cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is not exposed to high temperatures during normal wear, it can be safely worn.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar is hard but brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If the cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! You can gently wipe it several times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry.
6. Oiling Method for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the surface of the finished product, allowing the stone to absorb the oil and become more lustrous and bright. If you apply oil, you can then seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the velvet lining of the box.
7. Frequent Handling
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body with your hands. This allows a thin layer of oil to adhere to the stone's surface, making it appear more antique and elegant over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
