A vessel used to drip water onto an inkstone is called a "water dropper." Those with a spout are called "water pourers" (shuǐ zhù), and those without are called "water basins" (shuǐ chéng). Inkstone droppers, also known as "ink water droppers," are one of China's ancient study room implements, used to hold water for ink grinding.
The emergence of inkstone droppers is closely related to the rise of brush and ink usage. Initially, when grinding ink, ancient people discovered that controlling the water flow when pouring water from ordinary kettles or water pots into the inkstone pool was difficult. Thus, they improved and invented a tool for grinding ink that allowed for easy water control – this is the inkstone dropper, also known as a water dropper, water pourer, toad dropper, and so on. Inkstone droppers are crafted with more exquisite techniques. Besides metal, jade, and agate, they are mostly made of ceramics. Their designs are also full of ingenuity, comparable to the art of Zisha teapots that appeared later. Most inkstone droppers are elegant and unique, exuding a rich Chinese ancient artistic atmosphere.

Ceramic maintenance methods are as follows:
1. Hand wash when cleaning, as the glaze and body of ceramics are delicate and easily scratched. Avoid using abrasive cloths to prevent scratching the surface.
2. When washing ceramics with water, the water temperature should not exceed 70 degrees Celsius, and do not soak ceramics in hot water for extended periods, to avoid affecting their external appearance.
3. After cleaning, allow ceramics to air dry naturally or wipe them with a soft cloth. Do not use high-temperature drying equipment such as sterilization dishwashers.
4. Stains on ceramics should ideally be cleaned immediately and not left on for extended periods. For tea or coffee stains, use lemon juice or vinegar for cleaning.
5. During winter cleaning, control the water temperature to prevent ceramics from cracking due to freezing or sudden contact with hot water. It is best to use wooden or plastic basins for cleaning, avoiding ceramic or cement basins to prevent damage.
