《Artist Biography: Xie Zhong-Ren》
1973: Born in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County
1988: Studied jade carving techniques in Taipei
1993: Pursued further education in Advertising Design, integrating design concepts into his work
1994: Established his own studio
2000: Awarded an honorable mention in the Craft category at the 14th Nanying Art Exhibition for his work "Poised for Action." Participated in a joint jade exhibition at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in August.
2001: Invited to participate in the Hualien International Art Festival, demonstrating live carving in the indigenous creation area.
2002: Received an honorable mention at the 10th Taiwan Craft Design Competition, "Dream of Crafts." Participated in a joint jade exhibition at the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau in January. Exhibited in the "Flowers and Trees Carnival" in Changhua County in May, featuring a joint jade and stone carving exhibition. From October to December, was invited by the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Foundation and the Hualien County Cultural Affairs Bureau to exhibit in "Stone Garden," a touring exhibition in department stores across northern, central, and southern Taiwan.
2003: Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute to exhibit at the Presidential Office's "Taitung Local Crafts Exhibition," showcasing works such as "Lotus Ecological Scenery."
2004: From March to June, featured in the National Education Radio's "Arts and Culture Corridor – Xie Zhong-Ren Jade Stone Carving Exhibition." Received an honorable mention at the 12th Taiwan Craft Design Competition, "Dream of Crafts." Held a solo exhibition at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall from October to January 2005.
2005: Invited by the National Taiwan Museum to exhibit his indigenous carving work "Taiwanese Delicacy - Braised Pork Rice." From June to September, participated in an exchange with the National Museum of the Czech Republic, exhibiting in "Sherlock Holmes: A Century of Icons." Established the brand "Yu Ning Shi" and opened a counter in department stores. Mid-December, participated in the "Craft Master" exhibition at Pacific Sogo Department Store.
2007: Invited to participate in the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute's exhibition "Crafts Up Close – Applied Crafts for Daily Life" at the Executive Yuan Gallery.
2008: His work "Japanese-style Sushi" was selected for the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute's "Taiwanese Craft Competition."
2012: Awarded an honorable mention in the Traditional Craft category at the Ministry of Culture and National Taiwan Craft Research Institute's "Taiwan Craft Competition" for his work "Half Thought." Received an honorable mention in the Craft category at the 21st Tainan City "Nanying Award" for his work "Serene Mountains and Waters."
2013: Exhibited at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in the "Cross-Strait Jade Carving Exchange Masters Gathering," invited to display in the Taiwanese Jade Carving Masters section.
2016: Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center to exhibit at the Presidential Office Gallery alongside other Taiwanese craft masters in the "Gathering Around the Hearth – Sustainable Craft Exhibition," showcasing three pieces: "Japanese-style Sushi," "Handmade Mochi," and "A Moment of Leap."
2017: His work "Lingering Lotus Spring" received an honorable mention at the Taoyuan Arts Exhibition.
2018: Held his solo exhibition "Xie Zhong-Ren Jade Carving 30 Years – Continuation of Culture" at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
2019: From January to June, invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center to exhibit at the Presidential Office Gallery in "Feast · Happiness," showcasing his work "Auspicious Dragon Offering Blessings."
2020: Featured in the "Heartfelt Artistry – Taiwan Craft Development Association Fine Crafts Exhibition," held jointly at the Hsinchu County Government Cultural Affairs Bureau (July 29 - August 16) and the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center's Taipei Contemporary Craft Design Branch (October 6, 2020 - February 28, 2021).
2021: His work "Japanese-style Sushi" was exhibited in the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center's "Creative Regeneration Green Craftsmanship" exhibition (October-November). His work "Handmade Mochi" was selected for the 2021 Taiwan Craft Competition and toured at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center's Taipei Contemporary Craft Design Branch, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Store, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Ximen Store, and Taichung Store.
