The head circumference, weave pattern, and decorative band style can be discussed and made to your specifications. **Measuring Your Head Circumference** Whether you're choosing a hat for yourself or as a gift, selecting the right size is crucial. If you don't know your head circumference, you can measure it like this: Find a measuring tape or a non-stretchy string/ribbon. Starting from above your eyebrows on your forehead, wrap it around your head where a hat would naturally sit. Don't pull too tight; the measurement should be as comfortable as you would want the hat to fit. Since Si Cyuan hats can be tightened by approximately 2-3cm using the Velcro on the inner sweatband, measure for a comfortable or slightly loose fit. We use molds to ensure consistent size and shape during production. For this hat, our mold sizes for head circumference are 56cm, 58cm, and 60cm. If your head circumference is 57cm, please choose the 58cm size. **Weave Patterns** This weaving technique has been used for hats and bags for a long time, adding variation and holding different meanings. In recent years, weavers have also created new patterns. The openwork pattern in the photo is "Plum Blossom." We also offer "Diamond" and "Wavy" patterns. It was founded in 1947 by Grandpa Guo Xi-Quan, who specialized in Taiwanese Juncus effusus reed weaving. During her time living in New Zealand, the third generation was inspired by the pride and passion with which the Māori people and local residents spoke of their culture. This encounter sparked a different understanding of life and prompted reflection on her connection to her hometown and Taiwan. Shortly after returning to Taiwan, she returned to help with the family business and began learning to weave. In 2019, she named the shop after her grandfather and opened a store in Shen Ji New Village, Taichung, continuing his passion for weaving. Each item is meticulously handcrafted by local grandmothers and aunts, imbued with the spirit of Taiwan. **|| Juncus Effusus Reed Weaving Process ||** Growth | 3-4 months Sun-drying | After harvesting, sun-dried for about 2-3 months until golden yellow and completely dry. Sorting | Reeds sorted by length, with some tips removed. Selection | Reeds of uniform thickness selected before weaving. Dressing | Pulling off undeveloped leaves from the reed heads. Hammering | Breaking down the reed structure to soften it for easier weaving. For finer items, two additional steps are performed: "Splitting" (dividing the triangular reed into two or three finer strands) and "Rubbing" (removing the white fibers by rolling and rubbing the reed). **|| A Little Story About Taiwanese Juncus Effusus Reeds ||** Juncus effusus reeds become smoother and shinier over time through use, friction, and absorption of oils, developing a sought-after black-gold luster.
