The best way to protect silver jewelry is to wear it daily, as your skin's natural oils can give pure silver a warm, lustrous sheen. 2. After wearing, regularly wipe with a polishing cloth to maintain its condition. Store in a sealed, dry place to prevent oxidation and darkening from air exposure. 3. Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the jewelry. Do not wear while bathing in hot springs or swimming (pools or the sea). 4. Human sweat contains sulfur and ammonia, and the air can contain hydrogen sulfide and other substances, all of which can cause silver jewelry to oxidize, discolor, and lose its luster. Thus, some individuals find their silver tarnishes faster because their sweat is more acidic (contrary to the old belief that it indicates poor health!) or they live near sulfurous hot springs. 5. All pure silver products come with a polishing cloth. For intricate textures or chains that are difficult to clean, you can use baking soda. (Pour a moderate amount of baking soda into boiling water. Form a small bowl shape with aluminum foil. Place the silver jewelry in the foil bowl within the hot baking soda water. Once the oxidation is visibly removed, take it out, rinse with clean water, and dry thoroughly with a hairdryer before buffing with the polishing cloth to complete the process.)
