[Introduction]
[Includes one "Shi Fang Yi Nian Ex Libris" (random design; 9cm x 14cm)]
This is poet Lin Xi's most cherished poetry collection!
Are these poems?
They are poems, poems with visual elements, where poetry resides in pictures and pictures in poetry. These are modern poems that captivated Lin Xi since high school. Even after embarking on a career in lyric writing, the essence of modern poetry remained a constant inspiration, often subtly woven into his lyrics. Sometimes, his lyrics were written as free verse, akin to Faye Wong's "Face" or "Hypnosis." As the saying goes, "Poetry may end, but love poems never do."
This collection, "Shi Fang Yi Nian" (A Thought in Ten Directions), feels like the process of capturing feelings, imagination, and insights as they surge like waves in the mind—chaotic yet ordered—freed from the constraints of musical notes, melodic structures, arrangements, and singability often required in lyric writing.
In a world that often trades freedom for security, these verse-like writings are compelled to find their rightful place. Two designations are offered:
1. "Liberated Lyric Form."
2. "Recorded Lines of Thought."
The cover of this collector's edition, designed with a swirling motif that evokes the poetry arising from the text, is printed on subtly translucent Japanese paper. It creates an effect of wind lifting a curtain, highlighting the meticulous detail of the exposed spine binding, and embodying the concept of "three thousand worlds within a single thought" – the reality that exists between the seen and the unseen.
"Shi Fang Yi Nian," Lin Xi's most beloved poetry (without exception), invites readers to step beyond the realm of lyrics and enter a world of refined textual artistry.
Scavenging. A Decade.
What is called trash,
its residual value is
like finding a love child
who holds many hidden secrets.
And are we not also living a life of scavenging?
Each day, we bend down, heads bowed, as if picking up discarded wrappers on the street,
deducing the intimate affairs of others' lives,
contrasting them with our own sense of meaning.
It's like seeing gold from a pile of charcoal ashes,
sentences built from accumulated debris.
They say life has few decades.
Ten years ago,
words I couldn't comprehend.
Ten years later,
things I no longer wish to understand.
A thought of trash,
a thought of treasure.
A change of heart becomes poetry,
and is nothing more than this.
