【Tian Qing Clay】
This clay was refined in 2007 and has been aged for 15 years.
The clay has undergone aging of organic matter and re-firing to prevent mud cracks, which lowers the firing temperature.
The text in "Yangxian Minghu Xi" (A Series on Yangxian Teapots) describes Tian Qing Clay:
"Tian Qing Clay, originating from Lishu (a place name east of Huanglong Mountain in Dingshu Town), turns a liver-colored dark hue when fired. It also has veins within.
The spirit of the mountain intertwines, and through the potter's art, various marvels emerge.
In this iteration, we at Longshan Hall fired it three times in a push-plate kiln, resulting in a liver-colored hue.
The flame circulation, heat convection, and exhaust within the push-plate kiln create localized micro-oxidation and micro-reduction, allowing the clay to undergo more transformations during firing. The final water color will be lighter, retaining a more pronounced granular texture. These granules did not fully crystallize at high temperatures, thus the surface possesses richer layers, and light scattering creates a sense of depth.
Although its initial appearance may not be as brilliant as pieces fired in electric kilns, with a surface that appears dry and understated, its ability to absorb tea liquor during subsequent use is exceptional due to the retention of more micropores and granules. The components in tea will gradually penetrate and deposit, forming a soft, mellow patina with a sense of cultivated depth. The luster is a gentle, diffused reflection, conveying a texture enriched by time.
【Frequently Asked Questions QA】
1. How to prepare the teapot before first use?
Rinse thoroughly inside and out. A vegetable scrubber is recommended; avoid chemical agents. Simply rinsing with water is sufficient for normal use.
2. How to maintain the teapot?
After each use, keep it clean and dry to prevent tea stains. Store in a well-ventilated area. For long-term storage in its box, allow it to air dry naturally for 1-2 months to ensure moisture fully evaporates from the pores, preventing mold.
3. How to clean tea stains or mold?
Soak with enzyme cleaner.
4. Correct method for warming the teapot?
In cold weather or after prolonged disuse, use 40°C warm water to gently pour over the inside and outside of the teapot. Then, fill the teapot with water, allowing the pores to absorb moisture thoroughly.
5. How to care for pieces with engravings?
For teapots with engravings, a soft brush is recommended for cleaning.
