What is silvervine for cats?
Silvervine (also known as Japanese Catnip / Matatabi) is a non-toxic plant in the Actinidiaceae family. It grows in the mountainous areas of Japan and China at elevations between 500-1900 meters.
It is known to give cats that euphoric response that catnip, honeysuckle, and valerian does for cats as well. BUT the reaction tends to be more intense. Typical behaviors include rolling, rubbing, drooling, and licking. The effect usually lasts for 5 to 30 minutes and cats will usually visit it again after about 20 to 30 minutes.
