Porcelain tea bowl

This large tea bowl was wheel thrown from my small rooftop studio where I am now writing this description. I look out at the Yamingshan Mountains and draw in a breath. This chawan was made from Japanese porcelain and then an original ice blue glaze applied. All my glazes are food-safe. This bowl received a light band of greeny, grey on one side of the pot. Firing can be unpredictable which is part of the joy. I attempted to make a nice classic tea bowl form with slight undulations that give the piece some variation and movement. I love making tea bowls as each seems to take on their own personality and character. My seal is stamped in the middle of the trimmed foot ring. I make pottery to hopefully add pleasure to someone's daily life. That is the feeling that motivated me to create functional items out of clay.
