TAPANI: 3952 Old Goat - Named after the ancient place name of Yu-ching in Tainan, Taiwan, this is a high-quality basic writing model. Carefully selected abalone shells are used in a special full-shell design for both the cap and barrel. The abalone shell material is handcrafted, with each piece meticulously assembled and joined to maintain the continuity of its natural patterns as much as possible. Each shell piece possesses its own unique natural grain and color. After manual polishing, it is encased around a brass tube and coated with a thick layer of transparent lacquer. While the seams are visible, they are imperceptible to the touch. The natural patterns are vibrant and dazzling, creating a breathtaking beauty (natural patterns, high-quality items shipped randomly). The pen is complemented by gunmetal gray electroplated fittings, an airtight cap, and a flexible spring-loaded clip engraved with the 3952 brand logo.
The nib is a German Bock #180 (#5) small two-tone steel nib, handcrafted and adjusted by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphy nib. It enhances the strokes of Chinese characters, offering smooth writing with easy line variation and a unique brush-like character. A standard, unmodified straight nib is also available (in four widths: EF, F, M, B). If your handwriting is small or compact, we recommend the EF (extra fine) or F (fine) nib. For larger characters or if you're seeking a reliable signature pen, the M (medium) or B (broad) nib is suggested.
**Gift Set Includes: German SCHMIDT K2 converter (ink not included) + a handcrafted black genuine leather pen sleeve by a Taiwanese master craftsman (style shipped randomly) + 3952 Old Goat premium gift box packaging.**
Pen Dimensions: Weight: approx. 43g, Total Length: approx. 149mm, Cap Length: approx. 125mm, Diameter: approx. 14.5mm, Body Length (including nib): approx. 125mm.
Hand-Adjusted Calligraphy Nib:
1. For calligraphy nibs, it is generally recommended to first dip the nib in ink and use it for a period to break it in before using a converter.
2. If you experience ink skipping with a converter, check the angle at which you hold the pen. Ensure both iridium points simultaneously touch the paper; avoid writing with one side only. If skipping persists, check if paper fibers or debris are stuck on the nib.
3. Remove the converter and try filling the ink directly into the pen body.
4. Clean the nib first. If you write with one iridium point consistently or apply excessive pressure, it can lead to misalignment of the iridium points, creating uneven height differences that scratch the paper and cause debris to accumulate in the nib gap.
5. The calligraphy nib is adjusted from an EF nib to have a curvature. Line thickness is achieved not by pressing down, but by the angle of the pen holder, utilizing the nib's front curvature to create variations in line width. Holding the pen more upright reduces the contact area with the paper, resulting in finer lines. The more the pen is tilted, the larger the contact area, producing broader lines. The ability to write with varying line widths depends on your proficiency and skill.
In response to environmental protection, we do not proactively provide paper bags. If you require one for gifting, please specify this in the order notes after placing your order. Thank you.
Images are for reference only. The product is a single pen. Some photos may have slight color variations due to lighting and angles; the actual product prevails.
Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen body and cap. When storing, do not leave the nib facing downwards for extended periods.
Warm Reminder: Do not press down on the nib while writing, nor write with it angled to the left or right (for right-handed users, it is recommended to hold the pen so the nib points towards the 10 or 11 o'clock direction). This prevents accidental misalignment of the iridium points, which can cause scratching and ink skipping. The nib should be rinsed with clean water regularly to prevent ink blockage and maintain writing quality.
