TAPANI 3952 Laoshanyan - Named after the ancient place name of Yu'jing, Tainan, Taiwan, this is a high-quality basic model for writing. Featuring carefully selected abalone shell in a special full-shell design for the top and bottom. The abalone shell material is handcrafted, with pieces meticulously reassembled and joined to maintain the natural grain as much as possible. Each shell piece possesses natural patterns and colors. After manual polishing, they are encased on a brass tube and coated with a thick layer of transparent lacquer, allowing the joins to be visible but not felt. The natural patterns are vibrant and dazzling, creating a breathtaking beauty (natural variations mean each piece is a unique, high-quality random shipment). The pen is complemented by gunmetal gray plated fittings, an airtight cap, and a flexible spring clip engraved with the 3952 brand logo.
The nib is a German Bock #180 (#5) fine two-tone steel nib, hand-ground and adjusted by Laoshanyan artisans into a calligraphy tip. This tip enhances the expressive strokes of Chinese characters, offering a smooth writing experience with excellent line variation for a unique brush-like feel. A standard, unmodified straight tip is also available (in EF, F, M, B nib widths). If your handwriting is small or compact, we recommend the EF (extra fine) or F (fine) nib. For larger characters or if you're seeking a reliable signature pen, the M (medium) or B (broad) nib is suggested.
**Gift Set Includes: German SCHMIDT K2 Converter (ink not included) + One handcrafted black genuine leather pen sleeve by a Taiwanese master craftsman (style shipped randomly) + 3952 Laoshanyan premium pen box packaging.**
Pen Dimensions: Total length approx. 149mm, body plus grip section approx. 105mm, maximum diameter (excluding clip) approx. 14.5mm, total weight (excluding nib) approx. 41g.
Hand-ground and Adjusted Calligraphy Tip:
1. For calligraphy tips, it is recommended to initially use ink dipping for writing (do not remove the converter installed in the barrel; this prevents ink backflow into the barrel after writing). After a period of use and adaptation to the nib's characteristics, you can then use the converter for inking.
2. The calligraphy tip is an EF nib ground and adjusted to have a curved tip. Line variation is achieved not solely by pressure, but by the angle of the pen's hold, utilizing the tip's curvature to create varying line widths. Holding the pen more upright, with less contact area between the nib and paper, results in finer lines. Tilting the pen further or applying slight pressure increases the contact area, producing broader lines. The ability to write both thick and thin lines depends on your proficiency (each nib has a certain tolerance for pressure; avoid excessive force to prevent damage or misalignment. Using a writing pad under your paper is recommended for optimal writing).
To promote environmental protection, we do not proactively provide paper bags. If you require a gift bag, please specify this in the order notes after placing your order. Thank you.
Images are for reference only. The product is a single pen. Some photos may have slight color discrepancies due to lighting and angles; the actual product prevails.
Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen body and cap. When storing, please do not place the pen tip-down for extended periods.
Friendly Reminder: Avoid pressing down on the nib or writing at an extreme angle (for right-handed users, it is recommended to hold the pen with the nib pointing towards the 10 or 11 o'clock direction). This prevents potential misalignment of the iridium point, which could cause scratching or skipping. Rinse the nib with clean water frequently to prevent ink buildup and clogging, which can affect writing quality.
