Based on a sketch, the clay is shaped, dried slightly, and then repeatedly refined. We create enough pieces to fill the kiln evenly, a process that takes about a month. The first firing takes 7 hours. After cooling, each piece is wiped with water and individually glazed before a 12-hour main firing. Some pieces receive a gold glaze and are fired again for 7 hours. As slow cooling is essential, we wait about two days after each firing before removing the pieces from the kiln. Finally, each brooch is inspected by hand, and pins are attached to those that meet our standards. Currently, our success rate is around 70%. Although this process requires considerable time and effort, the result is a decorative brooch that combines the tactile feel of clay, the strength of pottery, the luster of glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents. We believe this is a piece that can be cherished for a long time, unchanged.
