Due to the rapid cooling of volcanic lava, obsidian, despite having silica as its primary component like quartz, cannot form the beautiful crystals that quartz does. Obsidian can be entirely monochrome, but sometimes it forms in stripes, creating what is known as an "eye." Some obsidian exhibits a rainbow-like iridescence when exposed to strong light, referred to as rainbow eye obsidian. Furthermore, obsidian containing granular mineral inclusions resembling gold flakes is specifically called gold obsidian.
