Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cutting Line" is exclusively A-grade, high-fat, vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the leather factory's processing methods that minimize damage to the hide, the leather surface may inevitably show minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We strive to avoid these during cutting or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made with sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create stitch holes in the leather, ensuring the beautiful, wavy stitch effect that distinguishes handwork from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Finished Edges Before completion, the edges are meticulously sanded and burnished. To achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges, "Cutting Line" employs its unique finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, edge wax is applied and burnished repeatedly with a polishing tool until the edges appear perfectly smooth. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Cutting Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, the dye is applied layer by layer with a sponge, progressing from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also wiped with clean water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As dyeing is done entirely by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
