【Pictures 1 - 4 are the original pictures】 [Figure 5 is the original picture with frame (framed 105 x 90 cm)] Author: Johann Gottfried Steffan (1815~1905)/ Karl Ludwig Lincke (1822~1886) Name: [The Rhone Valley of Sion] (Rhonethal bei Sion/ Údulí Rodanské u Sedunu) Signed: JG Steffan, München pinx./ L. Lincke, Berlin, scuipsit/ den Mitglieder des Kunstvereins für Böhmen in Prag. Technique: Etching. Year: 1881. Dimensions: 54.5 x 75.5 cm (screen). 105 x 90 cm (framed). Remarks: with double-layer cardboard mounting (including frame) No.: P K-069 After the middle of the 19th century, German Romantic landscape painting gradually moved out of the ideal landscape composition based on human figures with the changes of social reality, and turned to lay out the visible natural landscape that can be fully rendered. At the same time, the regional characteristics became more and more obvious. . This etching of ours is a reproduction of the oil painting [The Rhone Valley of Sion] by the famous Swiss landscape painter Johann Gottfried Steffan (1815~1905) at that time. Issued by the Bohemian Art Association, it is provided to the members of the association in an annual limited manner. It is engraved in the same size as the original, so the picture description is in German and Czech bilingual. Johann Steffen was originally a lithograph apprentice in his hometown of Wädenswil. In 1833, he went to Munich, South Germany to further his studies and entered the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where he was taught by Peter, the famous painter who started the Nazarene School movement. · Peter von Conelius (Peter von Conelius, 1784 ~ 1867), was also the president of the Academy of Fine Arts at that time. However, under the influence of another painter who was active in Munich, Carl Anton Joseph Rottmann (1797 – 1850), he turned to creating more realistic landscape paintings. Steffen's studio became a gathering center for Swiss artists in Munich, and the well-known Swiss Symbolist artist Arnold Böcklin (1827~1901) also worked together in his studio. He often travels to find scenery, mostly in the Swiss and South German Alps, with Berchtesgaden on the German-Austrian border as one of his favorite locations. Johann Steffen's paintings are mostly mountains and mountains, filled with the atmosphere of majesty and holiness. This ideal landscape has become the characteristic of the Munich School to which he belongs. In this [Sion of the Rhone Valley], a Stone arch bridge spans the valley, and a trickle flows through the valley, from far to near, into the foreground of the picture. The cattle on both sides of the river stand or lie down, and the shepherd stands in the shade of the river bank. , seems to be looking at the distant mountain scenery, and in the depths of the green shade, there is a woman sitting on the stone, her identity is not easy to judge. On the hilltop in the distance, stands the landmark of Sion: the Château de Tourbillon. In 1788, the castle was destroyed in a fire. The ruins of the castle are located on the top of the rock at the highest point in the city of Sion, and it is necessary to climb steep steps to reach it. Since the painter chose the view of the river valley outside Sion, it was impossible to see Sion on the other side of the hill and another landmark: the Basilique de Valère. However, the groves and gurgling streams in the river valley, bathed in sunlight, instead outline a peaceful paradise scene. The artist who made this etching, Karl Ludwig Lincke (1822 ~1886), was also a Romantic landscape painter, and was good at engraving and etching. He was born in the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, specializing in printmaking, and later in landscape oil painting. He has visited Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Italy. In this print work, we can see his superb etching techniques, restore every detail in the original work, and endow it with rich light and shadow, making it a rare print masterpiece. *If you have any details, please send a message to contact the designer *The main products of this design hall are Western antiques, old jewelry, and old European original prints.
