Hand-painted with natural urushi lacquer, each piece involves 72 layers of colored lacquer, meticulously applied, sanded, and polished by hand. This curing process, which develops a subtle sheen, takes 3-6 months. Following this, intricate hand-painted designs are applied. The strokes possess a visible texture and depth, capturing the essence and form of figures and animals through expressive techniques, distinguishing them from meticulous, fine-line paintings. In addition to Mr. Amo's unique methods, Japanese Maki-e techniques are incorporated, allowing the natural texture to be seen. Unlike typical lacquer pens with flat, uniform surfaces that conceal brushstrokes, Lao Shanyang's natural lacquer paintings reveal the distinct touch of each stroke, delineating the subject with lively lines. These pens are not merely static desk ornaments but complete works of art. Through continuous refinement and innovation, moving beyond Japanese, Chinese, or chemical coatings and printing, Lao Shanyang opens a new frontier for natural lacquer craftsmanship, creating a novel realm for natural lacquer fountain pens. This fusion of exquisite artistry redefines the fountain pen as an object of both use and collection, elevating it beyond the pleasure of handwriting and the smooth glide on paper to become a captivating desk art piece.
A special creation by the artist, titled "Sailing Midstream," features a three-masted sailing ship adorned with natural lacquer painting. This piece blends Eastern and Western artistic styles, rich in detail, wishing its owner smooth sailing in all endeavors.

Hand-tuned Calligraphy Nib:
1. For calligraphy nibs, it is generally recommended to first dip the nib in ink and allow it to break in for a period before using a converter.
2. If experiencing ink flow issues with a converter, check the angle of your grip. Both iridium points should land on the paper simultaneously; avoid writing with one side. If flow issues persist, check the nib for paper fibers or debris.
3. Remove the converter and try filling the pen directly with ink to test.
4. Clean the nib first. If you consistently write with one iridium point, or apply excessive pressure, it can lead to misalignment of the iridium points, causing them to be uneven, scratch the paper, and accumulate debris in the gap.
5. Calligraphy nibs are typically EF nibs adjusted to have a curvature. Line variation is achieved not by pressing down, but by the angle of the pen's hold, utilizing the nib's curvature to create width variations. Holding the pen more upright reduces the contact area with the paper, resulting in finer lines. The more oblique the writing angle, the larger the contact area, producing broader lines. The ability to write both broadly and finely depends on your proficiency and skill.
In response to environmental conservation efforts, paper bags are not provided proactively. If a gift bag is required, please indicate this in the order notes after placing your order.

Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen body and cap. When storing, do not leave the nib pointing downwards for extended periods.
Friendly Reminder: When writing, avoid pressing down excessively or writing with the nib angled to the left or right (for right-handed users, writing with the nib pointing towards the 10 or 11 o'clock position is recommended) to prevent accidental misalignment of the iridium points, which can cause scratching and ink flow issues. The nib should be rinsed with clean water regularly to prevent ink blockages that may affect writing quality.
