The Kahla Porcelain Factory was founded in 1844 by Christian Eckardt and became one of the largest porcelain manufacturers in Germany in 1914. After the Second World War, Kahla was changed to a state-run, and because of its successful export to European countries, it became the center of the East German porcelain industry. After going through bankruptcy, it was rebuilt in 1994.
