This painting depicts an autumn scene, with various types of chrysanthemums growing amidst rocks. Executed with meticulous detail and rich colors, the brushwork is precise and orderly, with vibrant hues that convey a sense of luxurious elegance. Flowers are initially outlined and filled with color, while leaves are rendered using the "boneless" technique, with petals shaded in white powder. The uniformly arranged leaves appear somewhat flat and uninspired. Zou Yigui (1686-1772) was from Wuxi, Jiangsu. He served as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Rites and excelled at fine brushwork of flowers, authoring "Xiaoshan's Painting Manual." This depiction of an autumn landscape features various chrysanthemums clustered around rocks, rendered with meticulous fine brushwork and rich colors, possessing a lavish and exquisite charm. The flowers are first painted using the double-outline and color-filling method, followed by the boneless technique for the leaves, with petals delicately shaded with white powder. The flat arrangement of the leaves appears somewhat uninspired. The centers of the wild chrysanthemums, dotted with colors like gamboge, exhibit a sense of three-dimensionality. Chrysanthemums, unafraid of frost and snow, bloom proudly in the autumn and winter seasons, cherished by ancient scholars.

Zou Yigui, born in the 25th year of the Kangxi reign (1686 AD) and passed away in the 37th year of the Qianlong reign (1772 AD), was from Wuxi, Jiangsu. His courtesy name was Yuanbao, and his art names included Xiaoshan, Raoqing, and later Erzhi Laoren. He obtained his Jinshi degree in the 5th year of the Yongzheng reign and served as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Rites, with the added title of Minister. He authored "Xiaoshan's Painting Manual." Zou Yigui's paintings were originally influenced by Yun Nantian; however, as many of his works were commissioned pieces for the court, he adhered strictly to established conventions and dared not deviate from the norm, resulting in precise brushwork and elegant, vibrant coloring.
