Thank you for your understanding. This charming and striking 'Hibotan' cactus boasts neat, angular rows and a deep, dark green skin. For it to bloom, it needs plenty of sunlight! The flowers of the Gymnocalycium genus are known for their impressive size and beauty. The Hibotan cactus (Scientific name: Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. friedrichii cv. Hibotan) is native to South America and belongs to the Gymnocalycium genus within the Cactaceae family. It's a variegated mutation of the 'Moon Cactus' (specifically, the 'Friedrichii' variety of G. mihanovichii). Its skin can appear in various colors, including dark green, deep purple, bright red (variegated, lacking chlorophyll), bright yellow (variegated, lacking chlorophyll), and orange (variegated, lacking chlorophyll). The variety available here is the dark green type with short, straight spines. The flowers are the ornamental highlight of the Gymnocalycium genus. These cacti are generally prolific bloomers. Sometimes, even small cacti will produce flowers, though larger specimens tend to bloom more profusely. It's common to see 4-5 flowers blooming at once, and they might open one after another or in a burst. Blooming is possible during warmer seasons (late spring to autumn); they enter dormancy in winter and do not flower. Sufficient sunlight is the key to encouraging blooms. Without manual pollination, these cacti are less likely to produce fruit. After flowering, the spent blooms usually wither and fall off naturally. If they don't detach completely, you can gently remove them. If you wish to cultivate seeds, you may try hand-pollination. | Sunlight | Full sun. Prefers warm and sunny environments, but requires slight shading and good ventilation during intense summer heat.
