It deepens in color over time with exposure to light, air, and use. For example, Tan brown will gradually transform into a caramel hue, and Chocolate brown will deepen further. * As vegetable-tanned cowhide is made without chemical coatings on the surface, the natural markings from the cow's life – such as "scars" from playful encounters, "insect bites," and "growth lines" from changes in weight – are inherent characteristics.
