《Green Green Island X Weidai Rice》 Rice paddies on the hillside White mist dissipates at dawn Egrets frolic in the water The sea breeze blows Carrying the scent of the Pacific Swaying rice A golden, abundant sea The sound of rice Is the song of the earth 🌾 I met Peiwei when I was living in Taitung. Peiwei is a natural farmer living on the East Coast. She cultivates pure food using methods that forgo fertilizers and pesticides, holding a deep belief that such food brings happiness to people. Each time I hear her speak of her stories intertwined with the land, I am profoundly moved. Because of her, I have come to understand more deeply that all humans, whether aware or unaware, are inseparable from this land. I recall a day when I asked Peiwei, "What does 'friendly' mean?" Her answer then was: "For me, true friendliness isn't just about being friendly to humans. True friendliness is being friendly to humans, friendly to the land, and friendly to everything in the world." At that moment, I was deeply touched. Because I knew these words were not empty. They had grown from the very fabric of Peiwei's life, solid and real, like a seedling planted in spring. 🌾 "As I care for the land, I am also cared for by the land." One afternoon, I followed Peiwei to check the irrigation. That day, I walked behind her, watching her move along the verdant rice paddies, occasionally crouching down to adjust the soil around the water outlets. This act of "checking the irrigation" is something farmers must do daily, carefully regulating the balance between water and the young rice plants. This balance is a principle that has existed in the world since the dawn of creation. In our world, this small group of natural farmers allows this principle to manifest, without interfering with nature. Watching Peiwei check the irrigation, that day, I simply felt a sense of joy, knowing that in this world, there are still people who maintain such a beautiful relationship with the land. Peiwei said, "As I care for the land, I am also cared for by the land." This tangible reality of working the land allows Peiwei to feel her own vitality within it. Simultaneously, it moves those of us who eat her rice with this same sense of reality. To me, Peiwei doesn't just care for the land; she guides souls to walk within this goodness. The world is a little more beautiful because of Peiwei's existence. 🌾 As I finished writing this set of postcards, I noticed the handwriting had become somewhat endearing. Reflecting on why, I think it's because the source of these words differs from the usual style of Green Green Island's writing, leading to a different state of mind while writing. A different state of mind brings different handwriting, which was a wonderful experience for me. While writing this set of words, I once again deeply contemplated the profound meanings contained within each phrase, word by word. As I put pen to paper, it felt as if they were being etched onto my soul, and I was consistently moved. "May we exist fully in this moment, having met on Earth." I will cherish these beautiful encounters in my life, for each meeting helps me understand more clearly who I am.
