Upon completion, it served as the administrative center for the Taichung Prefecture and later as the seat of the Taichung City Government. It is currently protected as a designated historical site in Taichung City. The building was initially used as the Taichung Prefectural Office (equivalent to "Prefectural Government" in Chinese grammar) during the Japanese era, hence its name. The ancillary buildings of Taichung City Hall were planned as government offices from the Japanese era and continue to serve as offices for the Taichung City Government. Located near the Taichung Train Station, City Hall is easily accessible. The surrounding area boasts commercial districts, dining options, and traditional old streets, rich in historical and cultural resources. City Hall and its adjacent buildings are designated historical structures, making this area a concentrated hub of historical sites, thus attracting many visitors.
