It typically has a spherical shape, ranging in color from dark green to grey-green. Mature plants easily produce offsets. Its root system is fibrous, with 2-8 spines attached to the ribs. The most distinctive feature of the Saint's Crown is its subtle rib cracking, resembling a smooth green orb adorned with a few spines. It usually has fewer ribs, with 5 ribs being characteristic. Variations of 4 or 3 ribs are also found, with fewer ribs indicating greater rarity and a higher price. While 5-ribbed specimens are common, those with more than 5 ribs are more likely to be hybrids. | Care Tips | The Saint's Crown thrives in full sun or partial shade. Place it in a well-ventilated area and use a well-draining potting medium. Summer is the growing season for the Saint's Crown, and watering should be reduced or stopped in winter. This genus (Eriosyce) generally requires a good amount of fertilizer to promote growth. Providing ample nutrients is recommended. Plants in this genus root well and grow vigorously. Those that branch and produce offsets can be easily propagated from their side shoots. However, they are also frequently cultivated from seed, with seedlings appearing in about 3-4 weeks. Some species may take 1-2 years to flower, and most cannot self-pollinate. Pollination by hand results in well-developed fruits. In summer, during the growing season, keep the potting soil moist, provide partial shade, and enhance ventilation. In winter, keep the soil dry, ensure ample sunlight, and maintain a temperature no lower than 5°C. | Flowering | The Saint's Crown flowers are pink, pinkish-white, or rose-red, with darker stripes on the petals. The blooms last for several days, typically appearing in spring and autumn. They are self-pollinating. | Cultivation Notes | Unless there are significant errors in cultivation, this plant is unlikely to die. It will bloom once it reaches a certain size. Due to variations in their native habitats, each species requires different growing environments and care conditions.
