From the Bagan region of Mandalay, Myanmar.
These Bhumisparsha Mudra Buddhas, crafted from bronze, were recovered from within a collapsed stupa.
The age is believed to be prior to the 16th century.
Similar styles of iconography have been documented on foreign websites, suggesting a 14th-century origin.
However, based on years of handling artifacts, it's prudent to offer a more conservative estimate.
These small-sized Buddha statues,
though unassuming, are remarkably ancient.
Historically, stupas were often consecrated with 108 statues,
leading to their considerable prevalence when unearthed.
The three-dimensional form bears a resemblance to Tibetan "celestial bronze" and "iron" artifacts,
suggesting a distinct stylistic influence.
Paired with a stainless steel chain, each statue can serve as a personal amulet for daily wear.
Religious relics inherently possess blessings and radiate a unique energy field.
They are also suitable for placement in homes or vehicles, serving as powerful talismans for warding off evil and bringing tranquility.
The exterior of the statues remains uncleaned,
preserving their original condition as found in the stupa.
The material is a bronze alloy.
The original earth encasement is largely intact.
Should they be worn by devoted collectors or practitioners over time,
the resulting patina from the oxidation of the metal's surface
is anticipated to develop into a rich and beautiful transformation.
Antique artifacts over 100 years old are subject to restrictions by Myanmar customs,
prohibiting their export.
These were brought back to Taiwan through special channels.
Research into overseas antique market data indicates that
most old Burmese personal amulets from over a century ago are made of terracotta (Figures A & B),
with metal examples (Figure C) being rare.
Their prices overseas are also considerably high.
This collection includes eight statues, sequentially numbered A through H.
