More than that, time's passage imbues them with an entirely different character. In 2017, we took over a leather goods factory in Miaoli on the verge of closure. With no prior experience, we gradually learned the craft of leatherworking. We fell in love with the way genuine leather changes color, develops a warm sheen, and becomes uniquely ours over time. About Our Leather | ◆ Vegetable-Tanned Leather This refers to leather treated with natural agents, characterized by its warm hues and visible pores. Compared to leather treated with chemical agents, it has a milder scent. Its defining feature is how it becomes increasingly lustrous and richer in color with use, diverging significantly from its initial appearance. This transformation is sometimes referred to as "leather nurturing." This characteristic of changing color with use is highly favored by a segment of consumers. Vegetable-tanned leather also comes in grades; the higher the oil content and the fewer the scars, the more premium and costly the hide. High-grade vegetable-tanned leather primarily originates from Europe, where most of RamahLeatherware's leather comes from, with a small portion from South America. If you wish to learn more about the leather we use, please feel free to send us a message. ◆ Leather Characteristics - Prolonged exposure to water can cause dye transfer; please air dry as soon as possible. - Cowhide naturally has minor scars, much like human skin. Scars are more apparent in leather treated with natural agents. Please view these scars rationally; RamahLeatherware has, however, avoided over 90% of them. ◆ Care Instructions - No special care is needed for regular use. However, if left unused for extended periods, it is prone to mold in Taiwan's humid climate. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area or a dehumidifier cabinet. - If the leather gets wet, avoid direct sunlight or using a hairdryer. Rapid drying can make the leather stiff and brittle. Allow it to air dry naturally. If accidentally rained on, watermarks may become noticeable. Other Notes | • Leather thickness does not indicate quality; all hides are processed. • Handmade items are not perfect; perfectionists should reconsider purchasing. • Vegetable-tanned leather is soft and prone to scratches.
