Besides his smile, his hands, steadier than mine, were captivating. He shared, "The more I paint, the steadier my hands become. Age has nothing to do with it." I'm grateful for Mr. Cao's understanding and guidance. When I was sketching Master Tam in the narrow passageway, which only allowed one person to pass, I might have disrupted his business. Coupled with my curious nature, I couldn't help but admire the beautiful hand-painted porcelain, making Mr. Cao worry I might accidentally break his creations. I hope Mr. Cao will be magnanimous and forgive my occasional clumsiness. *** I love Hong Kong's small shops because the owners remember customers' preferences and there's space for casual chats. You can easily see their unique personalities reflected in their shops. Most of my artwork was created on-site at these small shops. Through the act of painting, I witnessed the subtle interactions between shopkeepers and their customers.
