Burmese Dvaravati Agate Prayer Beads - Western Asian Medicine Buddha Agate Bead Bracelet

Eleven large-sized prayer beads unearthed from a collapsed stupa in Mandalay. These Dvaravati prayer beads are drilled and in the form of rosary beads. The oxidized patina has been carefully cleaned off. The maximum average diameter is between 1.1-1.2 cm. Dating is based on artifacts found alongside the stupa, suggesting an age of approximately the 18th-19th century. These rosary-style prayer beads were typically placed in stupas in strings of 108 beads. Due to the humid environment within the stupa, the original cords have oxidized and disintegrated. After being collected by artifact dealers in Myanmar, some were brought to Taiwan and sold as individual beads. Fortunately, a selection was acquired. Paired with a Western Asian Medicine Buddha agate bead, they have been strung into a unique bracelet, a sacred object imbued with distinctive character and spiritual blessings. The Medicine Buddha agate bead is an ancient, buried bead, classified within the Western Asian bead group (originating from regions such as Myanmar, Pakistan, and Afghanistan). This is an old agate bead dating before the 18th century, less than a thousand years old. Its diameter is 1.42 cm. These two artifacts are strung together to form a bracelet with a length of 19cm and an inner diameter of 15cm. ************************* Ancient beads originally held profound religious significance and served as protective amulets.
