TAPANI: 3952 Old Goat - Named after an ancient place name in Yujing, Tainan, Taiwan, this is a quality, everyday writing fountain pen. Italian briarwood is often used in pipe making. For the Old Goat collection, we specifically select the burl wood portions, offering a luster similar to the wood grain trim inside luxury cars. However, briarwood naturally has unavoidable "knots" or dark spots, which are inherent due to the use of burl wood, so each piece will have them to varying degrees. The grain patterns derived from the burl are intricate and beautiful. Through numerous layers of painting, sanding, and polishing, the pen achieves a particularly substantial feel in hand. Under the high-definition, high-gloss clear lacquer, the texture is further enhanced. The high-definition, high-gloss finishing makes it easy to maintain, resistant to ink stains or perspiration, and makes the wood grain appear more three-dimensional. While many pens on the market are simply polished or waxed raw wood, this meticulous treatment is exceptionally rare. (Briarwood features unique dark spots and natural grain patterns; high quality is assured with random selection.) The pen is fitted with a flame-patterned, airtight cap, grey chrome plating for accents and fittings, and a flexible clip featuring the 3952 brand logo.
The nib is a German Bock #180 (#5) size two-tone steel nib, meticulously hand-ground and adjusted by the skilled artisans at Old Goat into a calligraphy nib. This nib is designed to enhance the strokes of Chinese characters, offering a smooth writing experience with excellent line variation and a distinct brush-like character.
**Gift Set Includes: German SCHMIDT K2 converter (ink not included) + a handmade black genuine leather pen sleeve by a Taiwanese master craftsman (style shipped randomly) + 3952 Old Goat premium gift box packaging.**
Fountain Pen Dimensions: Total length approximately 142mm, barrel including grip section approximately 107mm, maximum diameter (excluding clip) approximately 12mm, total weight (excluding nib) approximately 32g.
Hand-ground and Adjusted Calligraphy Nib:
1. For calligraphy nibs, we recommend starting by dipping the nib in ink to write (do not remove the converter installed in the pen body; this prevents ink backflow into the pen body after writing). This allows the nib to acclimate to your writing style. After a period of use, you can then use the converter for filling.
2. The calligraphy nib is an EF nib that has been ground and adjusted to have a curved tip. Line variation is achieved not solely by pressure, but by the angle at which you hold the pen, utilizing the nib's curvature to create varying line widths. Holding the pen more upright, with less contact area between the nib and the paper, will produce finer lines. Holding the pen at a more oblique angle, or with slight pressure, increases the contact area, resulting in broader lines. The ability to write both thick and thin lines depends on your proficiency. (Each nib can withstand a certain degree of pressure; avoid excessive force to prevent damage or misalignment. We recommend placing a soft writing pad under the paper when writing.)
In response to environmental protection, we do not proactively provide paper bags. If you require one for gifting, please indicate this in the order notes after placing your order. Thank you.
Images are for reference only. The product is a single pen. Some photos may have slight color variations due to lighting and angles; the actual product prevails.
Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen barrel and cap. When at rest, avoid storing the pen with the nib pointing downwards for extended periods.
Warm Reminder: Avoid pressing down on the nib or writing at an extreme left or right angle (for right-handed users, for example, aim for the nib to point around the 10 or 11 o'clock position). This helps prevent accidental misalignment of the iridium tip, which can cause scratching or ink flow issues. Rinse the nib with clean water frequently to prevent ink buildup and blockages that may affect writing quality.
