**Commemorating Kindred Spirits Who Shared This Era**
**Illuminating the Brilliant Constellation of Figures in Academia and Literature**
This book gathers Professor Jin Yaokui’s writings on individuals from the past three decades. Beyond his father, these include his teachers Wang Yunwu, Pu Xufeng, and Zou Wenhai; predecessors such as Qian Mu, Xu Fuguan, and Fei Xiaotong; as well as peers and friends from his own generation, like Gao Kun, Ezra Vogel, and Yu Ying-shih. Most of these essays are tributes written in remembrance, while some were penned during their lifetimes, prompted by various encounters. Through their life stories, the book reflects on pivotal moments in the development of university education and academic thought. "Each of them once brought brilliance and warmth to this world, and each made my life’s meaning more abundant and fulfilling. To have shared this era with them was not merely 'fated,' but a true 'fortune.' Indeed, 'fated and fortunate to share this era.'" Through the author's evocative prose, as he recalls past interactions with departed friends, a deep affection for humanity is palpable.
