This is a square teacup, hand-painted with violets blooming in the pottery studio's garden and swallows in flight during spring. Enjoy your favorite tea, sake, or coffee from this cup. This teacup is crafted using coarse Shigaraki clay. While the clay is still soft during shaping, it is formed into a square shape, then hand-painted and fired to completion. The iron glaze used for the painting was made by collecting raw materials from a nearby rice paddy and mixing them in our own studio. Each side of the cup features a painting of either violets or swallows. The simple yet warm designs create a deeply evocative piece. It can also be used as a small bowl.
