Compared to pre-owned bags... accessories aren't always the most cost-effective. Items in good condition are usually quite pricey, especially from my two favorite brands, Celine and Loewe. They didn't produce many accessories back then (unlike Dior and Chanel, which have an overwhelming variety...). Furthermore, preservation awareness was lower in the past, so items often aren't in the best condition. Consequently, the overall circulation in the pre-owned market is relatively small compared to other brands. I often wear modified pieces. In the past, even small, exquisite components could be repurposed into stylish and minimalist accessories. This is a genuine Celine vintage bag component, originally a charm from a cosmetic pouch. It was repurposed because the bag itself was in poor condition. It's a charming little cube, with the Triomphe emblem engraved on each side. It's lightweight, unique, and easy to style without being ostentatious. This is a rather rare silver-toned piece, but it's not sterling silver, making it a great value. To reiterate, the main Triomphe metal cube component is 100% authentic, absolutely not fake/reproduced, truly authentic! The chain is sterling silver, and the clasp is an open clasp with a short tail chain for adjustable length. It should fit most wrist sizes, unless it's an exceptionally large men's size (it has been tested to fit wrist sizes from 13-17cm). It feels substantial in hand, not flimsy. In the past, most pre-owned items were ✦ handmade, imbued with the warmth of human touch rather than mass production. The craftsmanship of artisans was far more delicate than that of machines, much like how everyone appreciates items made by skilled craftspeople! However, today, the vast majority of processes are mechanized with minimal human assembly, losing the subtlety of the past. I find the simplest and most direct way to see this is by comparing the vintage "Monogram" patterns of old with the new "Monogram" patterns released by brands in recent years. The level of detail in the patterns alone is entirely different. If you love Monogram, you must look for pre-owned items! Truly! In terms of style, pieces from the past were more ✦ simple, timeless, and enduring. Many new designs today are actually revivals of older styles. Yet, new designs are priced higher than their vintage counterparts. New designs typically use older styles as a foundation, adding details or modifying the design. The final product always ends up more complex (or perhaps peculiar...) than the older versions. I believe as we grow older, we all understand one thing: the simpler, the more enduring! As we age, our clothing choices tend to revert to basics because the more basic, the more versatile. The quality of raw materials in older pieces is also superior to newer ones. If you understand ✦ leather, you'll see it immediately: the materials used in new items are generally of a lower grade than in older pieces. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality materials is now too high and their availability is less than before. Earth's resources are dwindling... Furthermore, brands back then didn't have the ubiquitous presence they have now with countless branches... their clientele typically had a certain income and certain expectations for the final product. There wasn't the "fast fashion" culture of today; a bag was expected to be used for many years. The difference between old and new eras is clearly visible in the ✦ hardware. Many new pieces' hardware oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two, but vintage pieces generally do not. In addition to the high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship, hardware from earlier eras was often plated with real K gold! It's worth noting that Chanel Vintage is expensive for a reason; many of its clasps and chains contain real gold, certified by gold merchants! Therefore, even vintage bags from the 60s and 70s, if well-preserved, can still have gleaming hardware today. As for the new items available now, to my knowledge, none of the brands use K gold in their hardware anymore, which is why it typically oxidizes easily. Many people say buying a vintage bag is a form of alternative investment because they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. This is because well-preserved pre-owned bags are becoming increasingly scarce. They are disappearing, one by one. Remember, each one is a discontinued item, and the number that exists in the world will only decrease, making them more expensive and harder to find. Moreover, many brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase drives up the market price for pre-owned items. Alternatively, if a brand releases a "reissue," the vintage reference piece or similar styles will see a sharp price increase! Add to this the recent trend of Japanese and Korean celebrities favoring vintage pieces; once a particular item is worn by a celebrity, its price skyrockets instantly, truly skyrockets. This is because during that period, many people will frantically search for that item or a similar alternative, causing the prices of those few items to multiply... Therefore, vintage is truly about "buy early, enjoy more; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertisement slogan... it's a truth in the pre-owned world...). This is my personal experience; I regret missing out on acquiring many collections early on... they are either lost or available at astronomical prices... But the problem is, even when you know it's astronomically priced, you feel compelled to acquire it because waiting will only lead to higher prices (unless the condition is poor). My personal habit is to also care for them when organizing my closet during seasonal changes (which makes each seasonal change a big project...|||). Pre-owned bags aren't that troublesome.
