Theme: 『Elegy』 A heart that wishes to sink. Words that wish to be hidden. A wind that brings tears. Away from the sun, I am in the shadows. Gazing at the air where beautiful dust motes float in the faint, penetrating light, I perceive form. ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー The theme for the first collection at the OTUTUMI online shop is 『Elegy』. It gives form to what the designer is feeling "right now." Everyone, at some point, tucks away feelings of sadness or pity, without speaking to anyone about them. This inner world is expressed through 『Elegy』 (meaning a sad song, lament, or dirge in Japanese). The black Mizuhiki is traditionally used in Japan for condolence money envelopes and never sees the light of day at celebratory occasions. However, this time, we have deliberately used only black, crafting the pieces to be perceived not by "color," but by "light" and "shadow." Though large, they are very light. The motif is an empty cradle, symbolizing a hollow heart, yet hinting at hope in the glimpses of light.
